Tin Cans were a big part of the games we used to play
If you ask any kid from the 50s and the 60s
I’m sure that’s what they’ll say

Back then children had fewer toys in which to play
So we used leftover tin cans
our mom gave us instead of throwing them away

we made do with what we had and would even plan
By claiming dibs on the next upcoming empty can

We used our brains with cans and string
and made up games out of lots of things

tin can alley was a favorite of mine
you set them up and rolled a ball down the line

Cans became telephones, scoops and pots, and pans
With just A little imagination and the use of your hands

Even though my sisters and I did have our dolls
I barely remember their names if at all

My brothers were more into marbles
They bought with hard-earned dollars

But, I venture to say, if you asked them today
They liked marbles, but they loved our Tin cans
