Bathroom Break

It was just another normal going to town day

the usual noise makers in the car on the way

 8 miles down South Hill

when we went down, we counted it a thrill

you know that funny little feeling you get

like the one after you climbed to the top of the bridge rails to sit

scary but exciting all the same

looking back now it was not our brightest game

it was a nice summer morning

Mama was tired and she gave a last warning

she pulled up in front of the store

and she said do not any of you dare get out of that door

she seemed to be taking longer than usual inside

I had to go to the bathroom I really must confide

I knew if I got out of the car, I would be taking a chance

so, I just crossed my legs until I did a little dance

I could not hold it any longer I  flew to the gas station to find relief

I did not care if my mother later gave me a little bit of grief

my sister was supposed to tell her where I went

but she forgot and when I returned the car had already went

I just stood looking at the spot

I could not believe my sister had forgot

my mother was about 2 miles out of town

when she discovered I am sure with a frown

she was one child light in the back seat

she turned around and headed up the street

I was still standing like a molten statue

if you had been me, what would you do

she never said a word just pulled in and waited

I could tell by the look on her face she was not elated

she told me much later I had taken years off her life that day

and that was all she would ever say

About the time she forgot me and just drove away
