As a teenager in high school
The time in your life when everything’s supposed to be cool
I learned more lessons from living with my oldest sister
Then, I ever learned in school by listening to the Mister
A young mother without the help of a man
She worked and made a living; she had a good plan
We never had much, but it was always enough
There’s not any real value in having too much stuff
She had two children, a sweet boy, Travis, and Little Lou Lou
They were full of spunk, always ready to entertain you
I think my sister was winging it as she went along
She never wanted to be viewed as weak but strong
A family is what you make it to be
Others may fault you if they don’t see
The daily struggles of raising children on your own
It takes all you have to make it a home
The music of the late sixties and early seventies was always playing in the background
It kept us entertained and filled the home with sound
Little green bag was Travis’s favorite tune
you would hear him humming it from morning till noon
This picture of her standing there reminds me of days long passed
A time when a young woman showed me more than I ever learned in class
Her one-person show helped me to know
Life’s hills are climbed one step at a time, and you hope
For the best as you go
