Roll on Cimarron
The Cimmaron begins her rising in Mexico near the Capulin mountain.
she curves around the ben, spewing like a water fountain
she is headed to Arkansas to put on a show
she will pick up the nickname “Red Fork” as She Goes
From hitting red clay on the banks as she flows
Now headed back to Black Mesa like a burning candle slowing her pace as she hit the Oklahoma Panhandle.
Cimmaron means a river of wild sheep.
settlers spent many days forging her river deep
with extraordinarily little food and hardly any sleep
crossing with cattle and horses in Conestoga wagons
wheels that rattled with the bottoms dragging
Many a roundup on the Cimmaron banks
fed many a cowboy who gave their thanks
she teamed with the blue cat and largemouth bass
giving life to many as she rolled on past
roll-on Cimmaron, keep a steady pace
roll-on Cimmaron, stay in the race
The Cimarron will roll on long after I am gone.
Roll on Cimarron Roll-on
thanks
