Pieces of her Past

Amazing that a 5×5 square
Strategically placed here and there

Placed together in a row and sewed patiently
Will become a beautiful quilt for someone else to see

Maybe from a favorite childhood dress
Packed away for years not worn but cherished none the less

Tucked away to be preserved until the right time and place
She pulls it from the trunk and her hands start to trace

The fabric in the dress that she wore as a small girl
She lifts it out and gives it the two step with a dancing twirl

Carefully stacking cut squares from the dress she once wore
Knowing when the quilt is done there’ll be new memories galore

The pieces of a childhood past
Sewn together with love and made to last
