Just wait till Daddy Gets Home

I heard the wheels on the gravel as daddy drove up in his pickup truck
I realized that now my time was close to being up

I was sitting in the corner, I had been here for a while
All afternoon when mom came through the room she never cracked a smile

The sound of daddy’s shoes as he was walking towards the door
Caused me to shrink down a little closer to the living room floor

He glanced my way but he kept walking
I sighed relief until I heard my mama talking

I could hear her in there spilling the beans
Ending with the words “she’s just been mean!”

she’ll have plenty of time to think on her way out to the tree
let me know when she gets back I’ll bend her over my knee

The deal was sealed I heard her say
I’ll send her out there right away

The switching I got that day was the surest way
To this day, To influence me to be nice when I play
