There’s a stillness as I quietly sit on my porch tonight
The clock ticks endlessly, but it’s not in my sight
While the children are asleep and tucked in bed tight
the day has moved along, and now it’s the night
The moon shining just enough for me to see
twinkling stars like a shimmering sea
just quiet solitude abounds
no noisy voices I hear, not even a sound
I love the solitude the nighttime brings
no thoughts of cooking meals or things
my husband and children are snoring in their beds
all tired from the day, now resting their little heads
but all good things must come to an end
I’ll need lots of sleep before a new day ascends
