Mrs. Robin

American Robins pair-bond during the breeding season
Females are primarily responsible for building the nest who knows the reason

She starts by building the nest that is made of twigs, mud, and dry grass leaves
Sometimes the nest will have string or ribbon that the robin
Might See

Every year mama Robin comes back to the same place
you can see her meticulously looking around at the direction she’ll face

she’s the hardest worker I’ve ever seen her nest is like a brick wall
by the time she’s done, it may measure 3 inches tall

The female typically lays two to four light blue eggs in the nest
about the size and weight of a quarter, she’ll now take a rest

The female incubates the eggs for two weeks
and both parents care for the young because mom can get weak

The eggs take around two weeks to hatch and the chicks will fledge
when they are about 12 to 14 days old, but not yet ready for a ledge

The female usually produce two broods of young, I’ve seen her do three

I have to admit it that even surprised me to see

The young are born with their eyes shut and first open about five days after hatching
Mamas very quiet on her nest just in case predators are watching

I’ve never seen two parents work harder than the Robin family
I’m amazed when I watch the first fledglings take off to the nearest oak tree

Mrs. Robin comes back each year with her same routine in place
I spend the spring watching with a smile stretched across my face
