My mama wore only dresses back in the day
Maybe in the fifties, that was just the way
Wide-brimmed garden hats that had country charm
Pillbox hats and summer gloves weren’t much good on a farm
She had a few dresses of pale colors made of cotton
The popular styles of the day she never would have gotten
No wild floral prints, no stripes, not even polka dots
Mother never could afford to buy a dress that was store-bought
Mamas naturally conservative look was just her way
As an example to her daughters her feminine side display
On those rare occasions when mom had to leave the house
She might put on a billowy skirt with a fresh white ironed blouse
My mother wore a simple homemade cotton dress
When I think of mama, that’s the memory of her I miss
Thank You
I love it!
