Listening

I sit and watch the rustling leaves
dancing in the gentle breeze

their soothing sound comforts me
it reminds me of the sound of waves on the sea

the whippoorwill interrupt my thoughts
she sounds to be a little overwrought

I see her just sitting there on a tree
it seems as though she was whistling to me

shes probably talking to some nearby bird
or maybe she’s talking just to be heard

the wind comes up and branches sway
they take my thoughts another way

I have to leave I cannot stay

But I’ll be back another day
