When the Nest Is Empty
A metal airplane sits on a stand right by his bed
It was always the last thing he saw when he rested his small head
Beside it sits a small wooden frame
A picture of him and father after a game
A few small things beside the lamp
From the summer he went to baseball camp
A boy soon leaves the nest, but the scene remains the same
It brings comfort to his mother to remember her boy’s dusty things
She carefully picks each up and dust the now old toys
In hopes one day he will return with his own little boy
