In the Well House at grandads place
In the summer you would see my happy face
There was a water pump in the middle, on the side was a spout
I would push the handle up and down until cold water started gushing out
Sitting on a rock was a pair of purple and yellow aluminum cups
with a dipper hanging on a nail, you better not forget to hang back up
Grandads well house had a cold damp smell, from what I do not know
It wasn’t really bad, but different than any other place I would go
On a hot summer day after an hour or so of play
I ran to the old well house, grandad said it was okay
I would vigorously pull on the handle up and down
On the pump inside the Well house until that sound
Liquid gold called H2O
cold as ice it would flow
Into my favorite purple aluminum cup
then I’d grab the dipper and scoop it up
That old well house still stands there today
The pumps are long gone but I remember the days
When a cold drink of water on a hot summer day
Gave me such pleasure, in such a simple way
