Back Yard

What’s in the backyard for you to see
There’s nothing but green grass in front of me

then close your eyes and open your ears
listen closely and envision what you hear

do you hear the squeaky voice of a squirrel
I hear him chewing on acorns and giving them a whirl

is that a blue jay in the tree I hear
or a chirping bird that’s filling the air

perhaps it’s a songbird can you tell who she is
her song gives her away

and lets you know she’s not a Bluejay

listen carefully an orchestra is tuning up
crickets and frogs Together erupt

The backyard is full of life that’s around
Take a few moments and listen to it sounds
