A moment of sadness

There’s a sad memory stuck inside of me
I’m trying hard to set it free

I try not to remember
But it’s a slow-burning ember

a dam burst tearing me apart
a river of tears flow from my heart

the path of life
Is filled with strife

Sad memories can’t hurt you
but when remembered make you blue

I’ll let it free just for the day
then I’ll put it safely away

in the recesses of my brain
until that day it sneaks back again
