When Summer Ends

No more noisy fun summers
My Music has now changed drummers

Those summer faces now gone for good
sweet little children growing up as they should

Teaching small bodies to swim
Now they quickly dive in on a whim

They don’t need you anymore
Because they fill a new door

you grow older, and life is unsteady
Their lives are in front of them, and they’re ready

They now make paths for themselves
My aches and pains have put me on a shelf

My April, Mays, and Junes
Are August and September moons

It’s just another season
But, if I am blue, that is my reason

I miss those lazy summer days
Sitting quietly watching children play

Now the only sound I clearly hear
Is the rocking noise of my porch chair

It feels like September winds might bring
A new melancholy song for me to sing

Take advantage of your summertime youth
Before those September winds move your booth

It’s when we only have memories of times past
We ask the question, how did life go so fast?
