Watching MaMa

Mom could always strike a pose
as the worldly cliché goes

the soft features of a round face
reminded me of Princess Grace

she had a twinkle in her eye
a soft-spoken voice much like a sigh

She was a country social butterfly
she would take a moment to greet a passerby

She always spoke kind words over the old wire fence
If gossip started up she’d take the victims defense

Her gentle ways filled up my days
I’d catch her stop to watch us play

I had the perfect example in front of me
I was too busy and didn’t always see

that should be a lesson for all little girls today
stop for a minute and watch your mama’s ways
