How many times did we say dear Lord
As our knuckles scraped up and down that board

Hanging over the side of an old washtub
The melodious sound of rub a dub dub

That’s all women had for many a year
Till a smart engineer caused us women to cheer

The new wringer washer took its place
Leaving a sigh of relief on our face

Now the washboard hangs on the wall in full glory
And that’s the end of the washboard story
