On any given day We all ran outside to play

Didn’t matter to mama how long we would stay

Down to the spring

A small sack lunch we would bring

We had what we needed, We had everything

Jumping off the rocks

Into water cold as ice blocks

Belly flopping all around

No one cared about making sounds

The summer wind carried the smell of lavender

It was soothing for sure as it hung thick in the air

Summer swimming was what we did

Down at the spring when we were kids

The only fear we ever had was meeting up with leaves of three

we were glad, daddy taught us how to spot poison ivy

Summer days were what we lived for

Children today would do well to do more

Outside activities to take in fresh air

It’s good for the soul and good for siblings to share

An experience you can look back on one day

And say I’m certainly glad I enjoyed those ways

On any given day,

throw caution to the wind and go outside and play
