I saw what I wanted to see
I arranged it how I wanted it to be
But the photographs reveal it all
it took me years to finally see the fall
Smiling faces and laughter abound
I took it in. I loved its sound
The smiles that I snapped that day
As I look back now, your photo gives it away
Some happy faces, for sure
I did not detect the sadness in yours
How did I never see it
Looking straight at me
I was busy with my own emotions. It was
what I determined the photo be
If only I had looked at the eyes
The place where a face never lies
It was written all over your face
The unhappiness, now I wish to erase
Life moves along, and I long for more days
But old age takes over with pain. That’s just life’s way
I think it is best I put my photographs away
And try to remember you’re happy today
