The Hope Chest

What’s in a hope chest

Some thing special not like the rest

She puts inside some small treasure

Something she bought that brought her pleasure

How will she fill it in the coming years

As her day approaches she has some fears

She quietly sits and wonders about that day

How the things in her chest she would someday display

Some dish clothes embroidered with such a skilled hand

Her Moms old blackened skillet that had fed all her clan

Just a few simple things she would have to share

To add to her home that would show that she cared

The Hope Chest would keep safe her treasured things

Hopes and dreams small things she brings

She hopes of a life filled with love and tradition

To maybe someday hand to her generation

What’s in a hope chest

A small promise of herself she’s willing to invest
