The Ditch Across the Road

After a good rain, the ditch across the road
Would fill up completely and spill over with its load

We begged our mom please what would it matter
If we just went across the road and put our feet in the water

Mom looked at us and Said guess it wouldn’t hurt
And after all, it’s just wet muddy dirt

The rain had filled the ditch with rain to the brim
We jumped in belly first pretending to swim

We had so much fun slinging mud at each other
Usually, us girls would gang up On our brothers

Mom’s only request for us when we were done
Was to use the water hose And then dry out in the sun

We never worried about what was in the water
We never got sick so what did it matter

Those wonderful days playing in the ditch are long gone
I’ll say one thing we sure knew how to have fun
