As young country girls
My sisters and I would walk to the
Bridge by Shortenings small cabin

Dick and David used it only during
Deer season

They lived in another town for some
Reason

We used to love to hang out at the
bridge nearby
We talked about boys and
wondered why

They always acted rather silly around us
We weren’t unique; we didn’t have makeup stuff

We made life plans while sitting on that bridge
We had a view of the honeysuckle by the ridge

Laughter over some silly antics we pulled
On each other
Knowing our brothers spied on us
And couldn’t wait to tell our mother

Days of summer, we played away
School break from our minds, we put
Far away

Yes, life was simpler back then
I find it comforting to relive those
Days again

We were four silly sisters together
Those memories I will always treasure
