I love remembering about the sandy bottom creeks

And the spring along the trail where you would squat and scoop a drink

the water was so cold and clear you could see yourself

Looking back at you like a mirror hanging from a shelf

the creek beds held some small harmless critters

frogs, turtles, and Small mountain boomer lizards

We would each catch our own and then on the side of the bank

on the count of three, we would all let go to see the path they would take

Hours would go by, but who counted time back then

When we got tired or hungry then it was time to go in

I can still see when we returned home the look on my mama’s face

She didn’t say a word but she knew we had roamed all over the place

As she looked our way, she would look up and smile

Go on wash up, Dinner will be ready in awhile

Not in the bathroom, go outside and wash off with the hose

You’ve got the whole creek bank on your clothes

I loved our hillside and sandy creek banks where we played

It’s the place I keep close to my heart, it’s where beautiful memories were made
