We had a pet Shetland Pony we all loved him so
Daddy got him for us, from where I really don’t know
Shetlands are strong, intelligent, gentle, and always true blue
They have the cute factor but don’t let that fool you
These hardy little ponies can keep a steady course
they are hard workers even out working a large draft horse
With small bodies, lush mane, short legs, and broadhead
It’s just the right size for children, but you’ll have to keep him fed
Shetland’s are good for children, thanks to their gentle disposition and size
They have soft winter coats and great big brown beautiful eyes
Shetland’s require grooming so wash and brush his mane
and don’t forget to comb him he’ll love it just the same
Always check his hooves daily for dirt, before you take your ride
In fact, you really should take turns, or your pony might just run and hide
We had a Shetland pony when I was a child and Ringo was his name
He was a pet but we saw him as our friend as I’m thinking back to memory lane
