Red cardinal
Cardinals are monogamous birds whose relationships
are harmonious and romantic with musical quips
The male and female sing duets to one another
calling similar songs out to each other
Both male and female Northern Cardinals sing, from a trees thistles
With a sound that’s a loud string of clear two-parted whistles,
songs last 2 to 3 seconds with a cheer, cheer, cheer
or birdie, birdie, birdie can be heard very clear
Males, in particular, may sing throughout the year
the peak of singing is in spring and when early summers near
at least 16 different calls for the Northern Cardinal bird
a loud, metallic chip is the one most commonly heard
Cardinals make this call when warning off intruders
to their territory
Or when predators are near, loud enough for the females to leave in a hurry
Sometimes they sing as they carry food to the nest
or when trying to get nestlings to leave the nest, so they can rest
The Cardinal is a beautiful bird with a red glow
Especially on a tree filled with a soft white snow
