Quilters

The quilt was made from many squares

Fabric from old dresses, or shirts, really from everywhere

Cornerstones, layers, and colorful borders

Carefully placed in a mindful order

A quilter used her favorite group

Then laid out her quilt on frames and hoops

Stitching here and stitching there

Colors bursting alive everywhere

The quilt will rest through generations of beds

tucking many children up to their little heads

When asked most women will confide

They sewed the quilt from need,

but truth be told it gave them pride
