The Precious Daughter’s out There

Precious daughter you were loved by me
My hope for you is that you see
Those missing years were not from me

When the first steps were taken I did not see
The road you would travel what your future would be
I did not have a say I did not agree

Precious daughter who could have known
My hands were tied but your absence was bemoaned
The years flew by and now you are grown

There’s no getting back all the times that you smiled
All the silly little things that you did as a child
If I only had a glimpse for just a little while

It is for the best they all would say
Well maybe it was, but just for a day
To have held you or watched as you played

Precious daughter you were loved by me
A little girl in my heart you will always be
I’ll try to understand and I’ll try to see
Perhaps one day you’ll wonder about me
