Teddy, My big Brother

was a brother like no other

he was shy and meek

but when he needed to he’d speak

I always thought he was too shy

I don’t know really why

Maybe because all the other brothers and sisters needed

Attention from my mom and dad who were already stampeded

There were times He faded to the background

He was so quiet you forgot he was around

He would show up if someone was picking on his sisters

By the time he dealt with them they were calling him mister

It wasn’t that he even professed to be tough

He just wouldn’t stand for us being treated rough

I was still small when he grew up and went away

I have two memories of him above all others that stay

In the back of a pick-up, we were all huddled together

I was afraid of something, he held on to me like a treasure

The other was a moment in time it was just a whim

we were at shortenings pond, I didn’t know how to swim

He saw me go off the dock, he jumped in

big hands immediately held me up

Then I was passed from limb to limb

Each sibling holds a different memory in my heart

Some more so than others we were close right from the start
