Mama used salve to heal all our parts
When Crushed in spirit and broken hearts
Mother always knew the right words to say
Then smiled and hurried us off to play
Mamas day always filled to the brim
Busy in the kitchen yet, singing a hymn
Some days as I try to recall her face
The lines are blurred as I try to retrace
The smile on her face that always rested there
The dark brown waves in her long thick hair
I strain to remember her big brown eyes
My mama rarely let her children see her cry
Days, months, and year’s roll past
My mamas’ salve has seemed to last
When I wake up embroiled in sadness
My mamas’ salve brings me such gladness
All my wounds have long ago healed
Mama’s salve of love is within me, still
