Journal

Mother said I learned to read at an early age
She said I was like an animal let out of a cage

So many thoughts stuck inside my head
I put them to pen and paper, so they were said

Some days it’s better to write down your thoughts
So your brain doesn’t become entirely overwrought

When the words are out, I always feel better
Even though sometimes it ends up a long letter

Words look nice sprawled across a page
The ink-filled page can release an inner rage

Reading offers opportunities you will find
The best of all is it brings me peace of mind
