Country girls hand in hand
Take my hands, she said with them stretched out wide
Come closer and stand right next to me, get by my bedside
I have something to tell you get closer to my ear
My voice is getting low and I need you all to hear
Remember when we were young children and Sister Sally and I were the babies of the bunch
Mama made you big sisters our keepers from breakfast and way after lunch
I know you were all unhappy, but you smiled as you took turns holding our hands
Sister Sally and I loved being swung between four sisters’ our feet too short to touch the sand
Hands in hands in small fragile hands intertwined like branches on a tree
Squills of delights and giggles rising like waves off the churning sea
We were six country sisters our hands formed a solid chain
Big brother’s there to shadow us and be our super train
Some days we floated in the clouds swinging between our big sister’s hands
Those were the best days I ever had, we were our own little band
Life’s’ treasures in our brains seldom meet the expectations of our hearts
I called you over to tell you sisters, Mama gave us the very best start
Never be sad and wonder what we could have done, before we part
Let’s clasp our hands one last time as we run down that country road
I won’t need any other solitary thing to lighten up my load
Six sisters, six country sisters,
with a whole lot of brother misters
