Clothesline

The Clothesline

Mom hung out laundry on the old clothesline
Underwear dancing in the wind was just fine

Clothespins fastened the clothes real tight
Pants on the left and shirts on the right

White sheets flapping made a distinctive sound
Just hanging out drying while no one’s around

An occasional driver by might get a show
But it wasn’t anything they didn’t already know

Striped overalls with big patches on the knees
Daddy wore them most days they had to be kept clean

The clothesline at the time was the best way
Mom could hang a basket full as she watched us kids play

The clothesline was such a simple thing yet a big part of our life
I’m sure most men where happy it was left up to the wife
