When Sister Stiched

When Sister Stiched

She learned to stitch muslin when she was nine

Grandma told her to make short little stitches and keep them in a straight line

Her material rarely was ever store-bought

You took what you could find, you got what you got

The feed sacks from Greers place

Would always make my sisters heart race

The colorful bags would have to be unraveled

Sisters hands would anxiously travel

Up and down the length of the smartly designed bags

Sacks For us that were riches to another they were rags

All the colorful designs jumped off the fabric

After washed and ironed her hands would cut quick

Patterns for dresses little sisters would wear

With ruffles and colors and always done with flair

Chicken feed bags made out of cotton with animal prints

Turned into children’s dresses for less than fifty cents
