On the dusty corner we played so free,
My sisters, my brothers, and little me.
Acorns with sailor hats, mama showed us how,
Folded from newspapers she had thrown out.
Little rocks and sticks for a garden small,
Lines drawn in sand — our castle, our all.
We laughed and were silly in warm afternoon light,
Under the wide Oklahoma sky and our massive oak so bright.
