Frontporch Light

A cowboy’s sweetheart waits at home,

When the cowboy has to roam.

She keeps his locket close to her heart,

When the cattle drive keeps them apart.

She sweeps the porch and lights the light,

So he can find his way at night.

She hears the fiddle, rooty-toot,

And knows those scuffed up boots will scoot.

She knows the life that he chose,

That’s just how it goes,

As every cowboy’s sweetheart well knows
