Front porch light

Front Porch Light

I left the front porch light on,

Not so bright, just a soft warm glow,

For anyone wandering tired and worn,

Needing a place where love still shows.

It ain’t much, just a bulb and a chair,

Maybe a fiddle leanin’ by the door,

But if your boots are dusty and your heart’s laid bare,

You can rest here, like many did before.

Cowboys, kids, and little birds too,

Alice and Rory walkin’ side by side,

The trail is long, whatever you go through,

There is always light where love abides.

So if you’re lost on that winding way,

When sunset paints the river wide,

Just look for that glow at close of day —

My front porch light, still on inside.
